The Pwee Foundation gets on board to support the social entrepreneurs of tomorrow

Brussels, Belgium, 12 December 2013

Junior Achievement - Young Enterprise (JA-YE) Europe announced the collaboration  the Pwee Foundation, a leader institution fostering strategic partnerships that bring about sustainable innovation towards an inclusive, progressive society.

The Pwee Foundation will be a partner in the Social Innovation Relay, a programme supported by Hewlett-Packard, which challenges students to design projects that could have a significant positive social impact.

The Pwee Foundation will support students participating in the Social Innovation Relay by offering a unique opportunity, the “SIR Concept to Reality”. The teams with high business potential will be selected  and the Foundation will provide coaching to fully develop the business idea into a complete viable business plan. The teams will be gain access to fund raising opportunities and resources to start their social enterprise. The Pwee Foundation will provide oversight of the incubation of the business from concept to reality.  

The Social Innovation Relay (SIR) is a global competition organized in collaboration with HP that challenges secondary school students to develop an innovative business concept that addresses a social need. The Social Innovation Relay provides young people with the hands-on skills and entrepreneurial expertise needed to start a successful career through a combination of virtual and face-to-face mentoring by experienced executives. The participating teams are paired with e-mentors who are all HP employees and who connect with the finalists to help them develop concept papers that can translate in feasible business ideas.

During its three years, it has engaged more than 500 HP employees to impact more than 43,000 students at 1,700 schools in 19 countries across the world. Last year’s winning team from India, Youth Innovators, developed a revolutionary building material made out of rice husk boards. The team will buy rice husk from farmers and create a building material, which they called “Green Wood”.
